What we do

Jorge Montalva, Class of 2016

In addition to obtaining unparalleled exposure to the Venture Capital industry, Cougar Capital has refined my critical thinking skills, expanded my perspective about how markets are created and disrupted, and opened the door to a vast network of talent I wouldn’t have been able to access any other way. It’s been a life changing experience.

Source Deals

Cougar Capital partners with venture capital and private equity firms and becomes a member of the syndicate team conducting due diligence on potential investments.

Conduct Due Dilligence

Cougar Capital members conduct primary and secondary research and formulate an investment thesis. Industry partners benefit from the synergistic impact of a student team that can assist in the heavy lifting that is often required in complex transactions or in fast track deals.

Govern Evergreen Portfolio

Cougar Capital members actively manage an evergreen fund on behalf of Brigham Young University. We co-invest between $25,000 and $100,000 alongside industry partners in growing companies across industries, stage, & geographies.

Students come to Cougar Capital with various backgrounds and experiences that bring a depth of understanding to the many business ventures we evaluate.

Over 150 top MBA students with an interest in venture capital, private equity, and entrepreneurship have participated in the program.

Student partners in Cougar Capital gain exposure to the venture capital industry by learning how to source deals, conduct due diligence, structure investments, govern a portfolio and exit deals.

Cougar Capital team members work directly with industry partners in sourcing deals and conducting due diligence. Partner firms provide clinical learning opportunities, mentoring and training in skill sets that enhance the MBA education.

Cougar Capital graduates work throughout the world in roles ranging from VC principals to startup entrepreneurs. Alumni rely on their Cougar Capital experience to immediately contribute to their industry.

Our alumni represent Cougar Capital across venture firms across the country and investment roles throughout the world.
